It plugs right into the multimedia monitor through a dedicated connection. Not exactly plug and play for the electronics challenged. There are a lot of wires to hook up of course. For me I have a complete Dolby Digital 5.1 system. If you want just bare bones Navi from Alpine, all you need is the NVE 852A and an Alpine monitor like the TME-M760 or TME-M580. Personally though, if I were to go that route, you might as well get the multimedia head unit.
